Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. Colossians 2:8

5. Rejecting the Reality of Hell

Two Ways to Protect Ourselves against this Nonsense.

1. Our perspective needs to be based on Truth not Feelings.

2. Traditions are fine but they should never take precedence over truth.

For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. Colossians 2:9-10

What Do We Need to Know about Christ in these verses about Christ?

1. That Christ Jesus is fully God.

We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

2. We have been brought into this fullness in Christ.

3. Christ is the head over ever power and authority.

“You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32

When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. Colossians 2:11-12

Satan hates us and doesn’t want you to know these things.

1. As believer’s in Christ our Sin Nature is Gone!

2. As believer’s we have Christ’s Nature.

You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. Colossians 2:13-14

Jesus Obliterated Sin’s Indictment Against You!

Obliterated means to destroy utterly, wiped out.

Annihilate, Demolish, Eliminate

An Indictment is a formal charge or accusation of a serious crime.

When Christ justifies you, it is as if you had never sinned in the first place; but more than that, you are given Jesus’ perfect record so no one can bring a charge against you.

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23

God has made us alive in Christ.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. Colossians 2:15

He Defeated Death Forever!
